<abstract xml:lang="ru">

The article reveals the problems of remodeling the history of indigenous knowledge of the Arctic. Using arguments related to the history of Western science, with the forms and methods of obtaining knowledge about the territories of traditional residence of indigenous peoples of the Canadian Arctic, Professor Stephen Bocking believes that the time has come to recognize the "wisdom" of indigenous peoples as another form of knowledge, along with science. Believing that this is a serious challenge to modern science, S. Bocking points out that Western science is a product of specific political and socio-historical factors that act as peculiar limiters of this form of knowledge. The "wisdom" of indigenous peoples of the Arctic represents an alternative ontology, where the relationship between people and other living species is initially modeled in ethical and ecological contexts. At the same time, the history of Western science demonstrates the constant interaction of the "wisdom" of indigenous peoples of the Arctic and modern scientific knowledge. Meeting at the epistemological border, these two forms of knowledge – science and "wisdom" – find themselves in a dynamic relationship, where the boundaries between them are permeable and mobile. Stephen Bocking calls this a significant "challenge" for modern science, which must acknowledge its "dependence" on political and other factors. At the same time, he reveals the basic principles of a new history of Arctic science, where indigenous knowledge itself and in the context of its transfer to scientists should receive a worthy place. It seems that this concept can be in demand in the creation of scientific models of indigenous knowledge, where they are used to improve the quality of life in northern and Arctic territories, including in the areas of health care and food security of the Russian Federation.
